Temple researcher on veteran support

The New Jersey-based 24-hour mental health helpline for veterans, Vets2Vets, is expanding its service to soldiers stationed in Ft. Hood, Texas. Mark Salzer of Temple's Department of Rehabilitation Sciences says peer-to-peer support is effective. "In my experience in working in the VA with veterans, there really is a brotherhood and sisterhood that gets developed by being in the military," he said. "They have to support one another. They have to have each other’s back and it really creates a different connection than even peers who are experiencing mental health issues who are not veterans."
