Brandon Matthews couldn't believe the feeling. The Temple golf star holed out a 15-yard flop shot for par on the final hole of the U.S. Open sectional qualifier in Purchase, N.Y. “At that point, I absolutely thought I was in the U.S. Open,” said Matthews. “The only thought in my head was that I'll be playing next week at Merion.” But Gavin Hall passed him with birdies on his final four holes. Matthews, the Atlantic 10 rookie of the year, called it "a phenomenal experience" and said he can't wait to get to Merion and practice "with some of the greatest players in the game, and learn from them." More good news for Temple fans: Geoffrey Sisk ‘88 finished in a tie for first to qualify for his seventh U.S. Open.
