Temple's Alpert describes difficulty in translating Leviticus from Hebrew

There's one text that acts as a keystone for conservative faiths against homosexuality. It's the law book of Leviticus: "Thou shall not lie with mankind as with womankind; it is an abomination." Temple religion professor Rebecca Alpert is uneasy about accepting Leviticus's apparent simplicity uncritically: "Nobody knows what the word 'abomination' means in that Levitical passage. It's a Hebrew word we can't translate."
