Temple's Wlezien: Convention speeches set tone for campaign's homestretch

What matters most in the campaign's final 100 days are their convention speeches, says Temple political scientist Christopher Wlezien. The speeches give voters a first look at a challenger who isn't familiar and a second look at a president who is. "It gets voters to take stock," he says. "Do I want to stay the course? Do I want a change?" The candidates' standings after the conventions have proved to be a reasonably reliable indicator of who will win, he said.
