Where do kids fit in when it comes to social networking? A recent national survey found social networking is the most popular online activity for American youth ages 8-18 and on average kids spend about 22 minutes a day on social networking sites. Andrew Mendelson, associate professor and chair of the Department of Journalism in Temple's School of Communications and Theater, said there are positive and negative aspects to kids using these sites. "Anytime you’re building a community, whether it’s online or offline, it’s great. The danger with kids is the chance they spend too much time with an online world and don’t establish (relationships) offline."
