Every December, a giant bird goes up in flames in suburban Phoenixville, Pa., the main event of the annual Phoenixville Firebird Festival. But before the firebird is set alight, someone needs to design and build the elegant wooden creature. Tyler School of Art student Brett Williams, a senior, designed this year's firebird and built a scale model before he joined a crew assigned to build the 29-foot-high sculpture. "It's a great opportunity to be part of this," he said. "This is the first time I've done anything to this scale."
