Washington Post: Bryant Simon on AC beyond the Boardwalk
Atlantic City has gone though many incarnations since its founding in 1840 — a health resort, a playground for the wealthy, a haven for East Coast gamblers — and Bryant Simon, a professor of history at Temple and author of Boardwalk of Dreams: Atlantic City and the Fate of Urban America, is expert in them all. "It's hard to imagine a place this small that generates so many stories," said Simon, who has lived and worked in the area on and off for 25 years. "Atlantic City is America on steroids, its best and worst features bloated and exaggerated."
