What should students learn during first years of college?

A new book, Academically Adrift, claims that students are not learning during their first years of college. "At Temple in the last few years, we have significantly changed our undergraduate curriculum and we have developed a new general education program where there has been a great deal of thought given to exactly what the content of the first couple of years of a student's education should be," said Senior Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies Peter Jones. "It is...a much more explicit, intentional focus on the development of the very skills discussed in this book."
