One theme that unifies children in the foster care system is their need for therapy when they've been placed in a foster home, and even after they're adopted, due to Reactive Attachment Disorder. James Corbin, an adjunct faculty member at Temple University Harrisburg and a Licensed Social Worker in Pennsylvania, says that RAD is a fairly rare disorder of which there is little public awareness. “It shares some characteristics with other mood disorders and for that reason can often be misdiagnosed as ADHD or bipolar disorder,” he said.

It's been about 32 years since the first baby was successfully born using in-vitro fertilization. For the most part, IVF babies have been shown to be as healthy as those conceived naturally, but an American geneticist has raised questions about what will happen as those people reach middle age. Carmen Sapienza, a geneticist at Temple University School of Medicine, says they may be at greater risk of obesity, hypertension and type 2 diabetes.
