On the heels of two World Series appearances that included the 2008 world championship, the once woebegone Phillies swept the field in popularity, venue and a variety of other categories in the four-part Philly Fan Project, conducted by the Sport Industry Research Center at Temple University and the Philadelphia Daily News. Asked to identify their favorite team, 54 percent of the respondents selected the Phillies. The Eagles, which placed second at 30 percent, were followed by the Flyers and 76ers. "If all four teams won the championship in the same year
or if all four teams were in dead last place, I think the rankings would come out a little more balanced," said Aubrey Kent, the center's director. "But it would certainly be football, baseball, hockey and basketball in that order."
