The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has revised the Form I-9 (Revision 02/02/09) and the List of Acceptable Documents. The new I-9 forms (Employment Eligibility Verification forms) are effective Friday, April 3.
All employers, including Temple University, must begin using the revised I-9 form beginning April 3. Failure to do so could expose the university to fines by the U.S. Department of Labor and USCIS. The revised form is intended to improve the security of the employment authorization verification process. The biggest difference in the revised Form I-9 is that all documents presented during the verification process must be unexpired. Additionally, using the new forms prior to April 3 could also expose the university to fines.
Please dispose of all your old I-9 Forms (Revision 06/05/07) on April 3 and the old List of Acceptable Documents and start using the current documents for all new hires, including part-time and student workers.
