OWLcard Mobile: FAQ

What is it?
Beginning Jan. 28, Temple University’s OWLcard identification credential can be added to Wallet on iPhone, so you can use your iPhone and Apple Watch just like your physical OWLcard. Temple is one of the first schools in the nation to roll out the program supporting iPhone and Apple Watch. This technology also will be available to Android users.

Why is the university doing this?
OWLcard Mobile will provide students, faculty, and staff a higher level of convenience as you can now use your iPhone and Apple Watch for everything from entering buildings to paying for a meal. OWLcard Mobile also provides added security as your credentials are protected with two-factor authentication on your devices.

When does it begin?
Right away. Learn more about how to get started.

Where is it available?
OWLcard Mobile on iPhone and Apple Watch is available immediately, on the Main, Health Sciences Center, Center City, and Ambler campuses. The digital credential allows students to use their iPhone and Apple Watch to check their meal plan usage and Diamond Dollars balance, and suspend or delete the physical card upon misplacing it. OWLcard Mobile also grants access to academic and recreation buildings and the TECH Center, responds to meal and dining purchases and laundry service, and more. Learn more about the capabilities of OWLcard Mobile.

Where isn’t it available?
The introduction of OWLcard Mobile to Temple University is a multi-phase project. These services will require the swipe of the physical OWLcard: access to Paley Library and the check-out of books and library materials; log-in and log-out privileges in the Kronos timekeeping system; purchases at vending machines; and access to on-campus parking services and garages.

Will my iPhone or Apple Watch work with OWLcard Mobile?
OWLcard Mobile in Apple Wallet works with iPhone 6 and later, and Apple Watch Series 1 and later. To get started, users must first verify that their devices meet these and other compatibility specifications, including setting up two-factor authentication to keep the credentials and its information secure. Visit Temple Information Technology Services for more information about OWLcard Mobile’s availability in Apple Wallet for iPhone and Apple Watch. If you need assistance setting up the service, contact the OWLcard office at owlcard@temple.edu or 215-204-3140. Business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
