Bagels & Co. was created by Glu Hospitality, a Philadelphia-based hospitality group and launched in the Northern Liberties neighborhood of Philadelphia, before it expanded to Fishtown, Center City, Rittenhouse, Brewerytown and now on Temple University located at 1431 Cecil B. Moore Ave.

Bagels & Co. is bringing its Brooklyn-style bagels and a spread of cream cheese flavors and sandwich options to Temple University.

Temple’s new Bagels & Co. shop, located near the intersection of Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue, will officially open to both the public and the Temple community on Monday, April 29. The first 100 people through the door that day will enjoy a free bagel and cream cheese between 8–10 a.m.

Prior to the grand opening, Bagels & Co. will host a soft opening for Temple students, faculty and staff on Friday, April 26. Members of the Temple community will receive 20% off any order placed between 8–10 a.m. that day. On Tuesday, April 30, to help ensure students are energized for upcoming final exams, the shop will also offer a free small coffee to the first 100 students who present a Temple ID between 8–10 a.m.

Bagels & Co. was created in 2021 by Glu Hospitality, a Philadelphia-based hospitality group, and features a variety of Brooklyn-style bagels, dozens of cream cheese and spread options, and a menu of grab-and-go items, including coffee and breakfast and lunch sandwiches served with Boar’s Head deli meats. Tim Lu and Derek Gibbons are the founders of Glu Hospitality, which owns, operates and/or partners on more than a dozen concepts in the Greater Philadelphia region and along the East Coast.

“The intersection of Broad and Cecil B. Moore is a vibrant hub for our students, faculty, staff and North Philadelphia residents,” said Ken Kaiser, Temple University’s senior vice president and chief operating officer. “By bringing this established business to this area, Glu not only enhances the local community but also offers valuable employment opportunities for our students.”

Bagels & Co. has since mastered the art of bagel making using traditional techniques and premium ingredients to deliver the ideal bite to each customer every time. When the company opens in a new city, seasonal cream cheese flavors are added to reflect that city’s local sports teams and more.

The shop won't be the only new Temple business located near the intersection of Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue for long. In the coming months, The Peabody, which Glu Hospitality will also operate, will open as an upscale casual dining space next door to Bagels & Co. The restaurant’s name is an homage to the now-closed student residence, Peabody Hall.

“This initiative marks the first step towards our larger vision of new amenities near the central campus corridor of Broad Street, culminating in the eagerly anticipated opening of The Peabody—a testament to our commitment to enriching both campus life and the surrounding neighborhood,” added Jonathan Reiter, associate vice president of business affairs and administration at Temple.

Temple’s new Bagel & Co. location features indoor and outdoor dining plus access to online ordering on major delivery apps. It also offers catering, coffee by the bag and company-branded merchandise.

Bagels & Co.’s menu is known for serving fresh Brooklyn-style bagels from scratch, making them crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. They offer a wide range of bagel flavors, including plain; sesame; poppyseed; and specialty options like rainbow, french toast and cheddar habanero. The shop’s homemade cream cheese is colorful and has a variety of unique flavors, including bacon cheddar, birthday cake, black truffle, cookie monster, chunk monkey, sriracha scallion, vegan tofu spreads and more. Toppings include cream cheese with vegan, nondairy and gluten-free options.

The shop brews Costa Rican coffee with exclusive blends created for Bagels & Co. by D’Amico Coffee Roasters. Their coffee beverages include coffee, espresso, double espresso, cappuccino, latte, matcha, iced coffee, iced latte, iced matcha, Red Bull cooler, Nitro cold brew and seasonal specials.
