Conference to showcase Temple’s international flair

From snake charmers in India to pediatric medicine in Vietnam, presentations at last year’s Global Temple Conference explored the university’s many international dimensions, highlighting Temple student, staff and faculty research, programs and creative activities from around the world.

This year’s conference, “The World at Temple/Temple in the World,” takes place Nov. 13 in the Howard Gittis Student Center, and includes a keynote address by David Edwards, a national authority on trends in foreign language education and international studies, as well as films, student poster sessions, panel discussions and a series of internationally inspired performances and exhibits by Temple students and faculty members. The daylong symposium will end with musical performances representing a variety of world regions at the “Global Temple Live!” concert.

Research prizes will be awarded to presentations that emphasize the three pillars of excellence: scholarship, artistic creativity and community service.

The annual Carnival of Cultures — which brings together international and cross-cultural student organizations with music performances, information tables, art and more — will take place the next day, Nov. 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., also in the Howard Gittis Student Center.
