Junior’s energy burns bright at F.L.A.M.E. Leadership Program

Consider Temple University junior Winter Sneed a textbook example of the ambitious “Type A” personality: The Fox School of Business marketing major serves as vice president of the Ladies of Elegance Step Team, competes on Temple’s gymnastics team, interns at the Federal Reserve, and recently was selected to participate in the prestigious F.L.A.M.E. (Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere) Leadership Program. Sneed was one of 30 chosen from hundreds of applicants for her demonstrated leadership and athletic skills. The U.S. Olympic Committee, in partnership with its Olympic sponsors, funds the program.

The program, held Aug. 2– 5 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado, brought together talented college students from across the country. The conference encourages minority students to pursue the Olympic ideals: persistence, vision, focus, discipline and commitment.

basics of wrestling and scoring, and even tried some of her news moves on Murata.

During the four-day program, Sneed lived like an Olympic champion, eating her meals in the Athlete Dining Hall and speaking with athletes at the training center during the day. She also participated in interactive sports demonstrations and networking workshops.

“At F.L.A.M.E., the most important lesson to me was networking. I found out about jobs, internships, family businesses and voluntary organizations through networking. I am confident that this program, and my formal education through Fox, is preparing me for a bright future,” Sneed said.
