Temple Student Government candidates announced

Voting starts March 31

Temple Student Government (TSG) on Monday announced the two tickets up for election to represent the student body in the 2015–2016 academic year.

Future TU, led by candidate for president Ryan Rinaldi, Class of 2016, is running against RepresenTU, helmed by presidential candidate Amber Navarro O’Brien, Class of 2016.

The tickets were unveiled at TSG’s General Assembly meeting March 16 and will campaign until elections are held Tuesday, March 31, and Wednesday, April 1. Students can vote online at uvote.temple.edu.

Current Student Body President Raymond Smeriglio, Class of 2015, said he and his fellow executive officers are making a strong push to deepen students’ engagement in the election process—including organizing and promoting two debates—and to increase voter participation.

“TSG works every day to represent the best interests of our fellow students,” Smeriglio said. “Learning more about the tickets running for election and casting an informed vote are the best ways students can build on all the progress TSG has made this year and to continue strong leadership on behalf of the student body.”

O’Brien’s RepresenTU team comprises vice president of services candidate Tyler Sewell, Class of 2016, and vice president of external affairs candidate Aaliyah Ahmad, Class of 2017. Rinaldi is joined on the Future TU ticket by vice presidential candidates Brittany Boston (services), Class of 2016, and Binh Nguyen (external affairs), Class of 2017.

According to its mission statement, TSG provides a representative government, advocates in the best interests of the student body and acts as the official voice of students in academic, institutional, and campus affairs.
