Dear Colleagues,

I write to share that I have appointed Dr. Stephanie Ives, associate vice president and dean of students, to serve as interim vice president for student affairs. As we continue to offer support and care to each other in the wake of Dr. Powell’s passing, I know Dr. Ives will serve as a source of strength and stability during these challenging times.

Since arriving at Temple in 2008, Dr. Ives has led with a student-first mindset, consistently prioritizing their experiences and perspectives. She has overseen Student Activities, including Greek Life and Temple Student Government, Leadership Development, the CARE Team, Student Conduct, New Student and Family Programs, Student Media, Tuttleman Counseling Services, Disability Resources and Services and the Wellness Resource Center, in addition to serving on many university committees.

Prior to her arrival at Temple, Dr. Ives was the director of strategic initiatives at the University of Pennsylvania for nine years and a health educator at the University of Arizona for four years, where she specialized in alcohol and drug education and sexual assault prevention. She has been the principal investigator on several federal grants and has twice received a Model Program distinction from the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Ives earned her doctorate in Higher Education Management in 2005 from the University of Pennsylvania, and both a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration and a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Arizona. She is also a 2008 graduate of the prestigious HERS Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration.

The values and vision that Dr. Powell emphasized — to offer steadfast support to all students as they take their individual paths to becoming their best selves — remain at the heart of student affairs. I want to acknowledge Dr. Ives for her unwavering professionalism and leadership throughout her time at Temple, but in particular, over the last several weeks.
