Dear Colleagues, 

I am pleased to share that after a national search, Josh Gladden has been appointed as the vice president for research at Temple University. Subject to final approval by the Board of Trustees, Josh will begin in his new role on Aug. 1, 2023.  

As an active research physicist, Josh was most recently the vice chancellor for research and sponsored programs and professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Mississippi, an R1 university. In this role, he has overseen research and sponsored program divisions for all funded projects and has led universitywide efforts to promote and facilitate interdisciplinary research teams, including three new centers and institutes. 

Josh joined the University of Mississippi in 2005 as an assistant professor of physics and has held several roles, including associate vice chancellor for research and director of the National Center for Physical Acoustics. Serving in different leadership positions in research over the last decade, Josh has collaborated across the university, state and with federal agencies to increase research funding and capabilities. His research interests include high temperature and pressure precision elastic constant measurements with a focus on energy-related materials. 

Josh is a collaborative and respected academic leader who has built his career around connecting people to build programs and initiatives that are larger than the sum of their parts. He enjoys being a problem-solver and working with others to develop strategy and build consensus. I invite you to learn more about Josh in this news story.
