Dear Colleagues, 

Following a national search, I am very pleased to share that Miguel Mostafá has been appointed dean of the College of Science and Technology, effective Oct. 1, 2023. 

Prior to this appointment, Miguel was associate dean for research and innovation, and a professor of physics and professor of astronomy and astrophysics in the Eberly College of Science at the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). As associate dean, Miguel implemented new initiatives to facilitate funding opportunities, which led to an increase of 15% in research expenditures last year. He was also honored with the Distinguished Mentoring Award to recognize his work with students, postdoctoral students and faculty.  

Since joining Penn State in 2013, he has also served as director of the Center for Multimessenger Astrophysics and associate director of the Institute for Gravitation and the Cosmos. Throughout his time at Penn State, Miguel has prioritized the student experience by designing new courses, developing more inclusive research opportunities and creating additional study abroad programs. He has been consistently committed to teaching and research excellence and has actively sought out opportunities for collaboration nationally and internationally. Prior to his positions at Penn State, Miguel was on faculty at Colorado State University and the University of Utah. 

Miguel’s research focuses on the study of the most powerful accelerators in our galaxy using gamma-ray observations and cosmic-ray anisotropies as well as particle interactions at energies that exceed the world’s largest particle accelerator. His research also includes exploring the structure of the galaxy and the nature and properties of dark matter. His h-index is 98, and he has 11 renowned papers with more than 500 citations and more than 2,000 citations annually since 2017. Learn more about Miguel.

His vision and expertise will have a significant positive impact at the College of Science and Technology and Temple University.
