Introducing the new Temple Skateboard Owl
The new clothing line has been launched by Jimmy “Sweatpants” Gorecki, KLN ’06, in collaboration with Temple and Boathouse Sports.
Jimmy “Sweatpants” Gorecki, KLN ’06, has long been Temple Made. Now, his wardrobe is, too.
The Temple alum and ever-popular professional skateboarder announced the launch of the new Temple Skateboard Owl clothing collection on Thursday, April 4. A collaborative effort between Gorecki and the university, the new clothing line has been produced by North Philadelphia clothing manufacturer Boathouse Sports, and it is now available in the Temple University bookstore and through the Jimmy Sweatpants and Boathouse Sports websites.
It is the latest in a long line of partnerships and collaborations for Gorecki, who has worked with numerous high-profile brands and celebrities, including LeBron James, the NBA, DC Shoes, Reebok, Vans and, most recently, the Philadelphia Eagles.
The collaboration with Temple and Boathouse is not Gorecki’s first entry into the fashion market; he previously launched JSP, short for “Jimmy Sweatpants,” and the brand is part of Gorecki’s larger Standard Issue Tees (SIT) brand, which he launched with his partner Jarod Lee in California in 2018.
Part of what drew Gorecki to collaborate with Boathouse is that he saw that the company’s work ethic and quality mirrored that of SIT.
“I really value the people that make this stuff. I could see the same humbleness and skill in them in North Philly as our facility out in downtown Los Angeles,” Gorecki said.
The initial design for the clothing collaboration will be just as the name implies—a depiction of an owl on a skateboard. The idea for the images can be traced back a few years ago and like the clothing line itself, it is also Temple Made. Fellow alum Jared Wheeler, CLA ’04, had shared a graphic of an owl with Gorecki, and noted that it would repurpose well for a clothing line.
Fast forward to the present, Wheeler’s hypothesis is now proving true.
Even in promoting the new line, Gorecki worked to incorporate Temple into the process. The lookbook photographer for Temple Skateboard Owl is a senior at Temple, while the videographer just graduated.
“Every project I do, I try and circle back and work with kids from within the city. I had great mentors that took me under their wing, so I always feel a real obligation to give back,” Gorecki said.
