A new study has found that black and Latino students with academic credentials equal to those of white students are slightly more likely than their white counterparts to apply to and enroll at selective colleges. Kimberley Goyette, associate professor of sociology at Temple and one of the paper's authors, said that while it's laudable that colleges are attempting to expand their outreach to include more black and Latino students, the "most effective way" for top colleges to enroll them is to improve the high schools that serve them, so that they have a similar academic background to their white counterparts.
