eBay's purchase a "compliment" to GSI

In a deal announced earlier this week, eBay Inc. will purchase King of Prussia-based GSI Commerce Inc. for $2.4 billon, in an effort by eBay to expand beyond its flea-market auction roots into a more viable competitor with online giant Amazon.com. Munir Mandviwalla, chair of Management Information Systems at Temple's Fox School of Business, said the deal should be considered a compliment to GSI. "There are only so many ways you can grow the flea-market part of the equation," he said. "For them to continue to grow, they need to look at different markets."
