WHYY-FM's "Radio Times with Marty Moss-Coane

Last week, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie announced plans for a state takeover of Atlantic City’s casino and entertainment district along the boardwalk, citing declining casino revenues, rampant corruption and persistent urban problems. Joining host Marty Moss-Coane was Temple history professor Bryant Simon, who wrote Boardwalk of Dreams: Atlantic City and the Fate of Urban America. "Atlantic City has to find a way to rebuild itself and this is going to be in the details. It's clear that one of Atlantic City's assets is not just the beach, but also the boardwalk. And they are going to come up with the right marketing campaign and really think through the idea of a family destination," said Simon. "Vegas tried that route, but they got it right with 'What happens is Vegas, stays in Vegas.'"
