Temple Police Officer Brian Kennelly receives Award of Valor

Temple University Police Officer Brian Kennelly, along with 44 other firefighters and first responders, recently received the Award of Valor at the Awards of Valor Ceremony at the National Liberty Museum in Old City.

Kennelly was highlighted in a Philadelphia Inquirer article covering the ceremony on Sept. 20. According to the article, Kennelly, four other Temple officers and a Philadelphia officer responded to a June 7, 2011, explosion at the Amtrak station in North Philadelphia after a railroad employee was electrocuted by an overhead power line.

Kennelly, who was in the parking lot at the time, found the worker who was "not breathing, was blue and had a faint pulse."

Officers worked on the victim and brought him down the embankment for treatment. The man was taken to the hospital and survived. Afterward family members sent the officers thank you letters and cards.
