Passports may be delayed two to four weeks

This is to advise you of extended (two- to four-week) delays in the processing of United States passport applications and to recommend that you plan as far ahead as possible if you plan on travel for which you need a passport. Below, please find updated information to assist you in making passport application plans:

1. To submit a passport application through the Office of International Services:

a. Telephone OIS at 215-204-7708 to schedule an appointment.

b. Bring all required documentation to OIS for your appointment (all requirements are listed at www.temple.edu/ois/home/services/passport.html).

2. To submit your application at another passport accepting agency, visit http://iafdb.travel.state.gov to locate an agent near your location based on ZIP code, to find out hours of operation, and to learn if the agency requires appointments and if it offers handicap access, photo service on site, and/or or photo service nearby.

3. Processing Time:

a. Routine Processing ($97 fee): According to the National Passport Information Center web site, “Normally Routine Service passports are received within six weeks. Currently, it is taking up to 10 weeks.”

b. Expedited Processing ($60 fee in addition to the routine application fee of $97): According to the National Passport Information Center web site, “Normally, Expedite Service takes 2 weeks to receive your passport from the date you applied. Because of unusually high demand, it is now taking three–four weeks.”

c. If you need your passport in fewer than 14 days, you will need to make an appointment at the Philadelphia Passport Office by telephoning the automated National Customer Service line at 877-487-2778. However, you should be aware of the following alert on the National Passport Information Center web site: “We are currently experiencing a very high volume of calls. Please expect delays if you wish to speak to a customer service representative. You may have to call several times before reaching a representative. However, please note that representatives are available from 7 a.m. to midnight, ET, Monday–Friday, except federal holidays.”
