President Hart’s statement on Haitian earthquake

As you know, a devastating earthquake hit Haiti yesterday, causing massive damage in and around the capital city of Port-au-Prince. Information on the full extent of the damage and the toll on Haiti's citizens is still incomplete, but early reports are that the impact of the quake is quite severe and that aid and rescue efforts are hampered by the destruction of buildings, roads and communications systems.
Temple has many connections with the people and nation of Haiti. A number of our students, faculty and staff are either from Haiti or have relatives residing there. We also sponsor projects serving Haiti, like the Kornberg School of Dentistry's frequent trips to provide free dental care.

I have asked the Office of the Dean of Students to coordinate services to assist students affected by the disaster or those wishing to support the relief effort. Students who would like to talk to someone are welcome to visit the Tuttleman Counseling Center. For additional information, please call 215-204-7276 or visit their website.

In the meantime, our thoughts and concerns are with the people of Haiti and all of those with family and friends in the quake zone during this difficult time.

Ann Weaver Hart
