University will test TU Alert system Friday

As part of Temple’s Emergency Preparedness initiative, the university will test the TU Alert system Friday, Feb. 3, beginning at 4 p.m. TU-Alert notification is one component of Temple University’s Emergency Notification plan.

A TU Alert will be sent when a determination is made that immediate action is required on the part of the campus community because of a significant emergency or dangerous situation involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of students or staff on campus. Testing the TU-Alert system is a critical part of ensuring its effectiveness.

In the event of an actual emergency where immediate notification to students and employees is required, Temple will use TU-Alert.

  • A text message will be sent to all individuals who have registered their cell phones numbers
  • An email will be sent to all Temple email accounts

Members of the Temple community must register their cell phone numbers in order to have information sent directly to their phone. In addition to registering for TU Alert, students, faculty, and staff should be aware of appropriate response procedures (evacuation, shelter in place) for buildings they frequent. Information regarding recommended actions in the event of an incident can be found on the Emergency Preparedness web site: temple.edu/safety/tuready

In addition to the TU-Alert notifications, a yellow bar will be placed across the top of the Temple home page at www.temple.edu. This bar will link to an emergency notification page with additional information. An emergency telephone number, or hotline, will also be posted for those needing to call in for recorded updates on the situation. Once there is no longer a threat to the university community, a message will be sent to resume operations as usual. Both the home page and the hotline will be updated.

Take a moment now to register or update your emergency notification information.
