A joint message about Charlottesville
As the leaders of Temple University, its students and faculty, we join together to write to you about the shocking events last weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Like many of you, we were appalled and deeply saddened by what happened in Charlottesville and at the University of Virginia. We ask you to join us in extending our deepest sympathies to those who were killed and injured in the violent clashes that took place.
Universities are communities in which ideas can be explored, faculty can teach and students can live and learn without fear. The racism, hatred, racial supremacy, anti-Semitism, homophobia and acts of violence shown last weekend have no place on or near any university campus.
We pledge to work together to ensure that all members of the Temple University community are safe to teach, live and learn.
