Incident involving Temple students

Dear students,

Last night, at approximately 10:15 p.m., our dispatchers in the Temple University Police Communication Center received a report from the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) of a reported robbery in the 1800 block of North Willington St. It has since been confirmed that two Temple students were robbed at gunpoint while walking on that block.

The most important thing is that no student was injured during the incident. The PPD is investigating with the assistance of the Temple University Police Department. We are grateful that the victims followed many of the safety tips that our office regularly encourages and immediately gave up their wallets in this instance. Our students’ personal safety and well-being are far more important than any possession.

The Office of the Dean of Students has contacted the affected students to ensure they have access to counseling and other trauma-informed resources. We also know that crimes like this affect other Temple community members and encourage anyone in need of support to contact Tuttleman Counseling Services.

We urge all members of the Temple community to contact Temple Police at 215-204-1234 if they have any details on this crime or need more information regarding the university’s available safety resources.

Best regards,

Jennifer D. Griffin
Vice President of Public Safety at Temple University
