Potential UPS workers’ strike
To the Temple community,
As you may be aware, contract negotiations between the United Parcel Service (UPS) and the bargaining unit that represents its delivery drivers and warehouse logistics workers came to a halt earlier this month.
With the current contract set to expire on Monday, July 31, there is an increasing likelihood of a UPS workers’ strike, which would have considerable ramifications both here at Temple and for consumers across the country. A strike would also lead to an increased workload for the United States Post Office as UPS ships out 24 million packages per day, accounting for about a quarter of all U.S. parcel volume. Delays will also be likely.
Moving forward, we ask that all departments monitor this situation and plan accordingly. This includes making backup plans and/or changing your method of shipping and receiving for time-sensitive packages.
The Temple University Post Office, located inside the Kardon/Atlantic Apartments on 10th Street between Montgomery Avenue and Berks Street, will allow for the drop off of packages Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon. All Temple University campuses are able to bring their packages to Main Campus for service.
Thank you for doing your part to help ensure delivery operations continue to run smoothly.
Sincerely,
Ken Kaiser
Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
