Dear colleagues,
I am excited to share that following a national search, Jennifer Ibrahim has been appointed dean of the College of Public Health and School of Social Work. She will begin her new role on Aug. 1, 2023. Jenn has served as interim dean for the past year.
Jenn has prioritized Temple’s mission of providing an excellent and accessible education since she joined the faculty in 2005 as an assistant professor. She was appointed associate dean of academic affairs in 2014, serving in this capacity until 2022, when she was appointed interim dean. She is also a professor in the Department of Health Services Administration and Policy with a secondary faculty appointment in the Beasley School of Law. During her career at Temple, she has taught 17 courses, 11 of which she developed, and continues her research in health policy and public health law with a focus on legal infrastructure as well as evaluating how law impacts health systems and health outcomes. Jenn has served as principal investigator (PI), co-PI or senior mentor for more than 20 grants totaling around $20 million. She has been recognized by her students and peers as an outstanding teacher and has received many awards, including the Great Teacher Award.
At the heart of Jenn’s work are people. She is passionate and steadfast about her desire to improve lives. Her vision for the future of public health is interdisciplinary, inclusive and community driven. She is a genuine advocate for the students, faculty and staff at the College of Public Health, the School of Social Work and the university at large, and I know we will all benefit from her leadership and initiative.
