An important announcement about my next steps at Temple

Dear Temple Community,

With a profound sense of gratitude, I write to share that I have made the difficult decision to step down as Temple University’s provost, effective July 13, 2025. Serving as provost of this spectacular university has been one of the greatest honors of my career, and I am immensely proud of what we accomplished together in advancing its mission. I am lucky, however, to have two jobs that I love, and I have found myself deeply missing the opportunity to engage in research and teaching the next generation of legal professionals. I look forward to returning to the faculty of the Beasley School of Law to reimmerse myself in this fulfilling work.

When I joined Temple’s faculty nearly two decades ago, I was drawn to the mission of the university and the incredible people who work here. Over the years, I have come to realize that both have meaningfully shaped who I am today. I feel fortunate to have been a steward of this critical mission through several roles, but especially over the last four years as provost. This role has afforded me the opportunity to learn more about the many exceptional things happening at Temple every day, and work on a daily basis with our broad community of remarkable people who move the university forward for the betterment of the world. It has been a great joy to have colleagues become friends, and students become colleagues.

Together, we have had many successes, thanks to the hard work of our faculty, staff and students—including increasing access and opportunity for students, building stronger student support networks, and strengthening our research portfolio.

This is a demanding time for higher education, but our university has a dynamic and experienced new leader in President John Fry. It has been a pleasure to work with John since he began last fall. He brings remarkable thoughtfulness, dedication and professionalism to the role. He is deeply committed to Temple’s mission and the vital role our university plays in our city, state, nation and world. I want to thank him for his collaboration and partnership. We will work closely over the next several months to continue to advance the university and to ensure a smooth transition.

Temple is a very special place to me, and it has been an honor to serve as provost. I look forward to seeing you around campus.

Warm Regards,
