Whether writing in English, French or Creole, the correct spelling of the predominant religion in Haiti is Vodou, according to the official orthography of Haitian Creole language, said Terry Rey, chair of the religion department at Temple University. Derived from the term "Vodoun" in the language of the Fon of Benin in West Africa, and signifying a company or family of spirits, the correct pronunciation is VO-doo. Use of the term "voodoo" as a synonym for irrational behavior — "voodoo economics," for example — is considered offensive.

For men, research suggests that sexual betrayal in a relationship is worse than emotional infidelity. For women, an emotional connection makes an affair more upsetting. After getting caught in an affair, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford proclaimed his mistress his "soul mate," prompting his wife to leave him. "Absolutely the wrong button, because what he implied was that he had this emotional relationship with her. And that's the thing that in general women find the worst," said Temple psychologist Frank Farley.

Local developer Brian O'Neill has dropped a staggering $8 billion lawsuit against his lender, Citizens Bank, as he seeks to finish his sprawling Uptown Worthington project in Chester County. "You almost never see [litigation in the middle of a project], because things rarely get bad enough," said Stephen Aichele, a real estate lawyer who teaches a course in real estate development finance at Temple's Beasley School of Law. "It might be unusual for this to happen, but these are unusual times."

Nevada's suicide rate is consistently among the highest in the country. In 2006, the most recent year for which complete data are available, the state had the fourth highest rate, with 19.5 deaths per 100,000 people. "A frequently observed, but poorly understood fact, is that Nevada is smack dab in the middle of a very large 'suicide belt.'" said Matt Wray, a sociologist at Temple. "There are competing explanations. The states all have this history of boom and bust."
