Two Temple students, Tyler Grady and Claire Fuller, advanced to the Hollywood stage of "American Idol," the top rated TV show in America. Another Temple student, School of Communications and Theater Ph.D. candidate Amanda McClain, is exploring American identity and the way it's portrayed in "American Idol" as part of her dissertation. "For example, the idealization of celebrity is a prominent theme of the show — and in life too," McLain said.

Students at Temple University celebrated Black History Month by inviting award-winning actor Glynn Turman to speak on campus. A 2008 Emmy Award and NAACP Image Award Winner, Turmantalked about the rise of African Americans in film, television and theater. The event was presented by Temple’s Office of Community Relations.

Philadelphia philanthropist/humanitarian, Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia president and Temple trustee Leonard Barrack has been named recipient of the 2010 Temple University Alumni Distinguished Service Award. The university's alumni association will make the presentation on April 10th, during its Founder's Celebration. Barrack is being cited for his unwavering support as a fundraiser, benefactor and trustee in promoting the interests of generations of Temple students and the university as a whole.
