A growing number of senior citizens are opting for cosmetic surgery. Frank Farley, a professor in Temple's College of Education, says there is no problem with seniors getting cosmetic enhancements as long as they are healthy enough for an operation, don't go to extremes in their appearance and recognize that future surgeries may be needed. "You don't give up your energy, your enthusiasm, your drive, your interest in life when you become a senior," says Farley. "It's your own life and you have to create the life that you like."

The poverty rate in Philadelphia jumped nearly two percentage points from 2009 to 2010, according to a federal report released Thursday, underscoring the growing plight of residents being swamped by unemployment and hard times. Temple today launched a program aimed at cutting down on wasted food and, perhaps, helping to prevent the "freshman fifteen." With so many cafeteria choices in so much abundance, it's hard for college students not to load up on the eats. But most students can't, and don't, eat it all. Dietician Julie Rhule says that's where Temple's "Waste Not" Project comes in. "Today we're having a 'Weigh Your Waste' project to educate students about how much waste they produce daily and encourage them to be aware of this due to the environmental impact that it can have."

"She drinks, eats and sleeps boxing," said Temple alumnus J. Russell Peltz, her mentor. Rogers doesn't intend her Armory show to be a one-and-done. She says she's ready to accept the occasional red-ink soaking until her company, BAM Boxing Promotions, becomes established enough to turn the financial corner.
