Gap exists between those who have home computers and those who don't

Throughout the nation, a stark divide separates those with access to computers and those without. In Philadelphia, some estimate that 41 percent of people lack access to home computers. Charles Kaylor, assistant professor of geography and urban studies at Temple, believes the real number is closer to 54 percent. "But the poor suffer problems beyond the Web," said Melissa Gilbert, associate professor of geography and urban studies at Temple. "Are you concerned about access to the 'net if you're hungry? Probably not."
