Is adolescence lasting longer? Laurence Steinberg's new book says 'yes'
They have been called "twixters," "adult-escents" and the "boomerang generation." They're the young adults who are just not growing up, and they're causing psychologists to re-evaluate the definition of adolescence. The trend is reflected in the title of the latest revision of Temple psychologist Laurence Steinberg's book, You and Your Adolescent: The Essential Guide for Ages 10-25. Steinberg expanded the age range in part because adolescence often lasts longer than it once did. "Young people stay financially dependent on their parents for a longer period of time which then creates a number of psychological issues that are associated with adolescence," he said.
