The Greater Philadelphia Jewish Coalition on Immigration is launching a month-long series of programs on immigration. Rabbi Carol Harris-Shapiro, a professor at Temple and part of the coalition, said there are several instances in the Torah where it states that "you shall not oppress a stranger, for you know the feelings of a stranger, having yourself been strangers in the land of Egypt."
