The Japanese comic book form known as manga — the global pop-culture juggernaut infamous for its violence and sexuality — has been under assault lately. In an op-ed column, Roland Kelts of Temple University, Japan Campus, described some of the hits taken by the manga industry this summer, including sales declines, porn scandals and online sharing of scanned titles.
