Dunkelberg: For the Fed, Diamond might not be the man for the job
Nobel Prize-winning economist Peter Diamond recently criticized Republicans for holding up his nomination to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, arguing that his decades of research on unemployment was crucial to conducting monetary policy. William Dunkelberg, a professor of economics at Temple, said he agreed with their decision: "What is needed at the board level is…people who understand the links between financial and real markets and how the tools available to the Fed which impact financial markets can be used to attain goals in real markets such as higher employment or lower inflation."
