Just about nine months ago, a deep sea expedition was underway approximately twenty miles north from what is now the epicenter of the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Temple biologist Erik Cordes and his team made a remarkable discovery on the ocean floor under nearly 1200 feet of water. What they found gives us a sense of what's at stake. "We were actually surprised. We'd never been to that site before and we expected to find something slightly different and what it turned out to be is what we think is the second largest coral reef in the Gulf of Mexico in deep water," Cordes said.
