Bass-baritone Eric Owens, artist-in-residence at Temple's Boyer College of Music and Dance, "dominates" the Metropolitan Opera's production of Wagner's "Rheingold," wrote critic Alex Ross in the Oct. 18 print edition of the New Yorker. Ross called Owens' portrayal "so richly layered that it may become part of the history of the work. Owens "has developed a cutting, at times electrifying, upper register," wrote Ross, who dubbed him "the chief glory" of the production — a remarkable feat given that the performance was the Philadelphia native's Wagner debut.
