Phillies fans are excited about the acquisition of Roy Halladay. They are already buying T-shirts, replica and authentic jerseys, with a pennant, a baseball and other novelty items yet to be available. Joe Mahan, an assistant professor in sports marketing in Temple’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, said Halladay could have an impact on promotions and sponsorships. "With promotions—such as bobbleheads, posters and the like—clubs look to create a 'stir' by utilizing the image of a popular player," Mahan said. "For great teams, these won't necessarily impact game-day attendance, but can generate curiosity of fans such as on the Web or even pique the interest of corporate partners who may want to align with the new star.

A Camden County, N.J., father faces attempted murder while authorities are still looking for the daughter they fear he drowned. Temple psychologist Frank Farley says if it turns out to be true, it is highly unusual for a father to kill his own child. "This case stands out because the overwhelming majority of infanticides are by mothers or women," he said.
