The film "No Footing" depicts the plight of a struggling young artist. But do artists really have it rougher than others these days? To be sure, arts jobs were hit hard during the economic downturn. Yet Carmina Cianculli of Temple's Tyler School of Art says artists are well-equipped to navigate tough times, and many find rewarding jobs. "The thing artists have developed as part of their education is creative problem-solving, and if they're able to use that skill, they should be able to find employment and support themselves as artists or in a field where they can apply their talents," she said. "Art students should feel optimistic. They just have to rely on their own creativity. Some of them don't realize the power they have."
