Psychologist Laurence Steinberg on "mean girl" behavior
When a teenage boy is beaten and kicked, it's clear the bullies mean business. But what about bullying that happens behind the scenes? Temple psychologist Laurence Steinberg contends that because young girls are less likely than boys to resort to violence, their issues oftentimes go unnoticed among parents and teachers. "Girls use social-aggression or relational-aggression tactics like gossiping or excluding people as a way of elevating their own status at another person's expense."
