Social work student making a difference in Uganda
Temple junior Kelsey Nielsen's social work curriculum took her to East Africa, where she fell in love with the Ugandan people. She serves as the adoption coordinator at the Amani Baby Cottage, an orphanage in Jinja, in addition to coordinating special projects and taking online Temple courses. "I feel drawn and called to this culture and the people here," said Nielsen. "This is home now." Nielsen has had her own personal run-ins with the region's biggest health challenge — malaria, a disease that struck her three times in 2010.
