Dennis Playdon, an architecture instructor at Temple, was "astounded" to see a 'for sale' sign on Joe Frazier's Gym last summer. He immediately recognized an opportunity for his architectural preservation students to get involved in the process of saving the historic site on North Broad Street. Some of Playdon's students (including Ann Dinh and Michael Baker, who are featured in a photo on the front page of Metro) are submitting an application to get the structure listed on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places, which would protect the building from demolition or major changes.
