Mental health terminology — words such as "dysfunctional" or "depressed," for example — is often used to describe cities. In an event on Wednesday, Temple Contemporary, the Tyler School of Art's flagship gallery, put Philly "on the couch" as if it were a person in a therapy session. The event brought together an historian and a psychoanalyst to dig deep into formative events in the city's history to understand its present-day personality and character. Robert Blackson, director of Temple Contemporary, said he hoped the audience came away with a vision for Philadelphia's future.
