Inside Out is a nonprofit headquartered at Temple that trains college professors to teach humanities courses inside prisons to a mixed group of incarcerated and non-incarcerated students. The program, which recently received new grant funding, began in 1997 when a suggestion from a life-sentenced prisoner inspired Lori Pompa, the Inside Out Center’s director and Temple criminal justice professor, to teach a once-weekly college-level course inside the prison.
