Temple study on bottle feeding continues to get national attention

For the second straight day, a Temple-led study which found that bottle usage after age two can lead to a higher risk of childhood obesity has been garnering national attention. Lead authors Rachel Gooze and Robert Whitaker of Temple's Center for Obesity Research and Education surveyed data from nearly 7,000 children and found that about 30 percent of those who were still using a bottle at age 2 were more likely to become obese by age 5 1/2. "The bottle at that age may be used for comfort or convenience, but those calories may be in excess. It's just something for parents to think about," said Gooze.
